St. Vincent & the Grenadines students engaging the CSME in St. Kitts & Nevis

19 tertiary students, accompanied by 1 lecturer and the Focal Point from St. Vincent & the Grenadines, were exposed to the CARICOM Single Market & Economy (CSME) from a practical perspective during the week of October 11th, 2015.
 
The students traveled to, and stayed in St. Vincent & the Grenadines for 1 week, and were granted privileged access to various stakeholders, critics, and implementing partners for an unfiltered, uncensored experience.  This allowed the researching students the opportunity to get a true understanding on how the CSME is being implemented in St. Kitts & Nevis.
 
The students were divided into four (4) groups, each focusing on a specific aspect of the CSME.  These four groups were:
  1. Free Movement of Skills
  2. Free Movement of Capital & the Right of Establishment
  3. Free Movement of Goods
  4. Service Providers

At various points the groups came together for some of the research sessions.

Free Movement of Capital & the Right of Establishment

  • Eastern Caribbean Securities Exchange

  • St. Kitts Investment Promotion Agency (SKIPA)

Free Movement of Goods

  • Bureau of Standards
  • SKN Manufacturers Association
  • Customs & Excise
  • Kajola Kristada Ltd.

Service Providers

  • DIGICEL
  • St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla Trading & Development Co. Ltd.
  • FedEx
  • SCASPA

All Groups met together at the following agencies:

  • Government Information Services (GIS)
  • Financial Services Regulatory Commission
  • Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB)
  • Governor General of St. Kitts & Nevis
  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs
  • Ministry of Education
  • OECS and CARICOM Ambassador

The group was also treated to cultural expressions and an Island Tour of St. Kitts and Nevis, which among other places, visited Caribelle Batik and Brimstone Hill.

CSME Unit

The CSME Unit of CARICOM is the impementation office which assists the Member States in fulfilling the requirements of the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas.
